Denzel Washington could reunite with director Antoine Fuqua in a new movie. Variety learns that the actor is in negotiations to play a lead role in a remake of John Sturges' classic western movie "The Magnificent Seven", while the helmer is in talks to sit behind the lens for MGM.

Washington and Fuqua first worked together in a 2001 crime thriller "A Training Day" which earned the former a Best Actor prize at the 74th annual Academy Awards. Their second collaboration is "The Equalizer", an adaptation of a TV series of the same name, due September 26.

Based on Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic "Seven Samurai", the original follows a gang of American gunmen hired to protect a small Mexican town from a group of bandits. The 1960 pic starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, and Horst Buchholz.

"Saving Mr. Banks" director John Lee Hancock is tapped to rewrite the script originally drafted by "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto. Tom Cruise was once attached to play one of the cowboys, but the "Edge of Tomorrow" actor bowed out of the project as he's gearing up for "Mission: Impossible V" and "Go Like Hell".
