Polaris collaborates with screenwriter Evan Daugherty to pen and direct a series of short gritty films called "The Four Players" retelling Nintendo's classic Super Mario Bros. like people have never seen before. The titular video game hero is reimagined in "The Fixer", Luigi in "The Addict", Princess Peach in "The Star", and Toad in "The Soldier".

"Making these short films gave me a chance to really 'do my own thing,' while having a little fun treating one of my favorite video game properties with a darker vibe," Daugherty says. "I had been kicking around the idea for years before I was even working in the industry, so to finally be able to share these films with fans on Polaris is a very exciting thing."

The first two films have landed online. "The Fixer" takes inside Mario's gloomy life as he recharges his energy, works out, and fixes things all the while he's questioning himself. Luigi's life is not sunshine and rainbow either in "The Addict". In what looks like a recovery group meeting, he remembers his past that forces him to rethink his present.

Daugherty's credits include "Snow White and the Huntsman", "Divergent" and "Ninja Turtles". The other two short films will follow soon.
