Jake Gyllenhaal was so into the character while filming his new film "Nightcrawler" that he landed in a hospital. The actor was shooting an intense scene as a crime scene reporter who punched a mirror when he "flipped out".

Gyllenhaal's representative Mara Buxbaum confirmed that the actor had the on set accident on Wednesday, November 13 and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. "Jake was indeed filming Nightcrawler when during the shooting of an intense scene his character purposefully banged his hand into the mirror," his rep told Us Magazine.

The rep continued, "Unfortunately the mirror broke and Jake's hand was badly cut up. He got numerous stitches at the ER and was released. He already returned to set for work." The rep also told the AP that Gyllenhaal spent only "a few hours" in the ER.

A hand is not the only thing Gyllenhaal gave up for the movie. He had lost 20 pounds to portray Lou whom he said "was literally and figuratively hungry." The film, also starring Rene Russo and Bill Paxton, will be released next year.
