"Masters of the Universe" has got an update. Terry Rossio, the co-writer of mega-budgeted "The Lone Ranger" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, has been hired by Columbia Pictures to write the script for the upcoming adaptation of the He-Man tale.

While a scribe has been secured, producers still have to look for a director to shepherd the new take on the 1980s Mattel toy land. "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" John M. Chu who was long attached to take on the role as the helmer is no longer involved in the project.

The story revolves around Prince Adam who, when uttering the magic words "By the power of Grayskull - I have the power," turns into He-Man. He must defend his planet Eternia from the evil forces who wants to conquer Castle Grayskull, the place that gives him his superpowers.

The first He-Man film was released in 1987 with Dolph Lundgren on the lead. The effort to bring the heroic warrior back to the big screen has been long in the works. Before Rossio was brought in, Michael Finch and Alex Litvak and Richard Wenk worked on the drafts.
