Icelandic actor Hafthor Julius Bjornsson will take on the role in season 4, replacing Ian Whyte who was initially tapped to fill in the shoes left by Conan Stevens.

AceShowbiz - There's a minor shift in the casting ensemble of "Game of Thrones". The show has cast Icelandic actor Hafthor Julius Bjornsson in the role of The Mountain, brother of Sandor Clegane a.k.a. the Hound, for its upcoming season 4.

"For all my fans! I am happy to tell you that I will be THE MOUNTAIN In season 4 In Game Of Thrones :)" Bjornsson let the cat out of the bag via his Twitter post on Monday, September 2. HBO has reportedly confirmed the news.

Bjornsson will be the third actor playing The Mountain. Conan Stevens played the character for two episodes in season one, before Ian Whyte stepped in as his replacement in season 2. The character did not appear in season 3 and it's not clear why the show recast the role.

Production on "Game of Thrones" season 4 began earlier this summer for a spring 2014 premiere. Added to the cast line-up are Pedro Pascal as Prince Oberyn Martell a.k.a.Red Viper, Indira Varma as Red Viper's love interest, and Mark Gatiss as well as Michiel Huisman in secret roles.
