"Devil's Knot" has debuted new official photos (via Entertainment Weekly) that give fans first proper looks at Colin Firth, who is seen, in one of the pics, calling someone with a worried look. In the crime movie that is based on Mara Leveritt's 2002 book about the infamous West Memphis Three case, the "Bridget Jones's Diary" actor is introduced as a private detective.

The notorious case involved three teenagers, who were convicted of the murder of three eight-year-old boys in 1993 and sentenced to life in prison despite a lack of evidence. The trio, Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Jason Baldwin, was released under Alford pleas after serving 18 years.

In the film, Firth's character, Ron Lax, helps persuade the courts that the boys might not have been responsible for the crimes. Also featured in the Worldview Entertainment pic is Reese Witherspoon, who plays the mother of one of the innocent children murdered in Arkansas.

Also starring Mireille Enos and Alessandro Nivola, the drama is directed by Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan with a script by Scott Derrickson and Paul Boardman. It will be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
