Vin Diesel Likely Confirms His Role as Groot in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
Movie

The 'Fast and Furious' star talks about the extraterrestrial, sentient tree-like creature and says Marvel is fine with his social media teases.

Vin Diesel is indeed looking forward to joining Chris Pratt and his fellow actors in "Guardians of the Galaxy", but what remains mystery is the role the buffed actor has actually been offered. He's been linked to the tree-like creature Groot ever since he posted its image on his Facebook. However, no official word on this has been heard.

L.A. Times Hero Complex has had a chance to interview Diesel, and the actor seemingly reveals that Marvel wants him to be the voice of Groot. Asked "why Groot?", Diesel answers, "As an actor, not everything has to be the most obvious choice. And sometimes, the best thing you can do - as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice - is to defy expectations."

"So if everybody thinks you're going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it's interesting. And when something is interesting, it's inspiring," he adds. During the chat, the actor also addresses rumor suggesting that Marvel Studios is not that happy with him continuously dropping hints at his Marvel involvement.

"The last thing they are is mad," the "XXX" actor reveals. "I'm pretty open, but I have been secretive about this. I went to Comic-Con and I got blasted while I was on the Hall H panel for 'Riddick'. Someone asked a Marvel question. I couldn't say anything because of that secrecy."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is directed by James Gunn. It is set to storm theaters on August 1, 2014.
