'Divergent' Confirmed to Head to Comic-Con, 'The Hobbit 2' Absent

While Shailene Woodley and co-stars will show up in Hall H for a panel, Peter Jackson decides to skip it to focus on the production of the second and third 'Hobbit' films.

AceShowbiz - Summit Entertainment apparently will not only bring "Ender's Game" to the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con. From the official press release, it is confirmed that the much-anticipated "Divergent", due out on March 21, 2014, will come to Hall H for a July 18 panel that will exclusively feature its first footage.

Besides the promo video, fans will be treated to special appearances from novelist Veronica Roth, director Neil Burger and its cast members. Set to be on hand for the event are Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Ansel Elgort, Mekhi Phifer, Ben Lamb, Ben Lloyd-Hughes and Christian Madsen.

A booth located within the Grand Hall is also prepared by Summit Entertainment to provide fans with premium promotional items.

"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug", meanwhile, will not participate in the convention. Director Peter Jackson confirms the news on the film's production blog.

"I just want to pass on some news, which I'm sure is going to be disappointing to anyone going to Comic-Con this year, any fans," Jackson says in the video. "A couple of days ago I told [Warner Bros.] that I just really wasn't ready to present anything of 'The Desolation of Smaug' at Comic-Con this year."

"I'm so busy shooting ... that every hour that I spend focusing on a really great reel for Comic-Con - and it would have to be great - would be hours spent away from the vital job of making the second and third 'Hobbit' films as cool as they can possibly be."

"The Hobbit 2" will open in theaters on December 13.
