The frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers reimburses ticketholders who came to their shortened June 8 gig.

Following up on his promise to fully reimburse those who attended their show on Saturday night at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, Tom Petty has started to refund tickets to the June 8 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers gig. The show was cut short after a fire marshal shut it down due to the crowd size.

The band was already 90 minutes into their set when the fire marshal closed down the performance right after they sang "Melinda". The fire marshal made the call based on his estimation that the 1,300 capacity of the main floor had been precariously exceeded, despite a joint report by Fonda Theatre and Ticketmaster that the number of tickets sold that night was not beyond the venue's capacity.

In their next gig the following night, Petty tried to make it up to the previous night's audience by saying, "We had to quit a little early last night. I don't like to assign blame, but it wasn't me. I'm absolutely sure we're going to work this out. If I have to pay it myself, everyone will be reimbursed."

The rest of the band as well as the show's promoters echo Petty's sentiments, as revealed in a press statement, "The satisfaction of fans is of paramount importance to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and the band shares the frustration of the fans in attendance that evening who deserved to experience the entire performance."
