Michael Rooker is added to the cast ensemble of "Guardians of the Galaxy". Deadline reports that the 58-year-old actor is tapped to portray Yondu, a Zatoan-tribe member and a founding member of the Guardians in the Marvel Comics universe.

The movie will reunite Rooker with writer/director James Gunn. The actor who's best known for his role as Merle Dixon on AMC's hit series "The Walking Dead" starred in the "Guardians" helmer's previous films like "Slither" and "Super".

Rooker joins Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista. Pratt will play Peter Quill/Star-Lord, the Guardians leader who's a son of a human mother and an alien father. Bautista will be Drax the Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos.

The upcoming superhero flick is planned for an August 1, 2014 release. "Colombiana" actress Zoe Saldana is reportedly in talks to be cast as Gamora, the adopted daughter of the villainous Thanos and the last of her species.
