'Frankenweenie', 'ParaNorman', 'Hotel Transylvania' and 'The Pirates! Band of Misfits' are among the other animation hits vying for the coveted Best Animated Feature prize.

AceShowbiz - Hyping up the early 2013 awards season, The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood announces its nominees for the 40th Annual Annie Awards on Monday, December 3. A number of acclaimed animated movies are vying for the Best Animated Feature gong at the upcoming prize-giving event to be held in early Feburary.
Leading the pack are "Brave", "Wreck-It Ralph" and "Rise of the Guardians" with ten nods apiece. Trailing behind them are "Hotel Transylvania" and "ParaNorman" with eight bids each. "Frankenweenie" has six, "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" bags five, while "The Rabbi's Cat" earns two.
Covering a total of 30 categories, the 2013 Annie Awards recognizes the year's best in the field of animation. Those categories include Best Animated Feature, Best Animated Special Production, Commercials, Short Subjects and Outstanding Individual Achievements among others.
Upon revealing the nominees, ASIFA-Hollywood president, Frank Gladstone, said, "I am very excited about this year's slate of nominees!" He gushed, "We had more submissions to choose from this year than for any prior year in Annie Award history, running the gamut from big studio features to indie films, television series to internet shows, games, shorts and, for the first time, student films, all showcasing the huge variety of venues, creativity, technical innovation, and story-telling that our art form has to offer."
The 2013 Annie Awards will unveil its winner during a ceremony on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at UCLA's Royal Hall in Los Angeles, California. The complete nomination list can be obtained on Annie Awards official site.
