Jena Malone Officially Offered to Play Johanna Mason in 'Catching Fire'
Movie

The 'Sucker Punch' actress is in early talks with Lionsgate Films to tackle the part of the sarcastic female tribute from District 7 in the 'Hunger Games' sequel.

After Mia Wasikowska confirmed she was not in talks to play Johanna Mason in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire", another actress is now reportedly close to tackle the part. It was The Hollywood Reporter which has broken the news that Jena Malone has been officially offered to play the mean-spirited female tribute from District 7.

According to the site, the "Sucker Punch" actress is currently in early negotiation with Lionsgate Films. This new report apparently debunked previous rumor that actress/model Zoe Aggeliki was the frontrunner to star as the axe-wielding tribute.

Should Malone finally seal the deal with Lionsgate, she will not only appear in "Catching Fire" but also in its follow-up, "Mockingjay". The raven-haired actress is expected to begin filming with director Francis Lawrence in late September.

In the Suzanne Collins book, Johanna is described as a sarcastic girl who has no friends or family in District 7. During the 75th Hunger Games, she pretends to be a weakling so no one sees her as a threat but later she reveals herself as a vicious killer. She also becomes a strong ally of Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark and Finnick Odair during the Quarter Quell.

Slated for a November 22, 2013 release in the United States, "Catching Fire" will bring back Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth as Katniss, Peeta and Gale Hawthorne respectively. In the sequel to "The Hunger Games", Katniss and Peeta will be forced to compete in a special 75th staging of the Hunger Games, where they must fight against past winners.
