John Mayer made a triumphant comeback after taking a brief break to recuperate from a throat surgery. The pop/rock singer debuted at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 200 with his new album "Born and Raised" and stayed put at the top spot in its second week on sales.

It marked his third chart topper, following 2009's "Battle Studies" and 2003's "Heavier Things". Humbled by his latest chart achievement, he credited his fans, "[It] is just incredible on all your parts because there has been very little I've been able to do to promote it."

"I am very grateful to you," Mayer continued. "Even if this album slides off the charts in a month, it doesn't make it any less special to me, and we should all be digging this music together, like we would have (and will again) on stage."

He was supposed to hit the road for a series of concerts last spring, but was forced to scrap them all due to his persistent throat condition. "I'm pretty emotionally burnt out at the moment, but please know how hard I tried to resolve this and how disappointed I am that I can't perform this record yet," he regretfully announced the cancellation.

Mayer released "Shadow Days" as the first official offering before the album release. Next, he is preparing to promote his second single "Queen of California".
