Rumor has it, the 'Heartbreak Warfare' singer dedicates the first single from his upcoming album to Aniston knowing that the actress would hear it.

AceShowbiz - The woman that inspires John Mayer's brand new single "Shadow Days" is revealed if Us Weekly can be trusted. According to the publication, the pop/rock singer penned the ballad track to bid goodbye to Jennifer Aniston with whom he broke up nearly three years ago.

" 'Shadow Days' is about Jen," a source said. "It really took him a long time to get over her. He really loved her a lot." The insider added, "He wrote the song as a farewell letter knowing [Jen] would hear it. Ultimately he's done a lot of self reflection though and it he realizes they weren't right for each other."

"Shadow Days" is the first offering from Mayer's new album "Born and Raised", which is due in the United States on May 22. "You find yourself alone," he croons in the song. "I found myself in pieces/ On my hotel floor/ Hard times help me see/ I'm a good man with a good heart/ Had a tough time, got a rough start/ And I finally learned to let it go."
