Julian Fellowes, the creator of the British period drama series, has reportedly chatted with various directors and producers about his interest to adapt the TV show into a feature film.

AceShowbiz - After winning the Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television prize at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards, "Downton Abbey" might soon be adapted into a Hollywood movie. During the after party of the prestigious awards, the creator of the British TV show, Julian Fellowes, has reportedly gushed about his interest to make a feature film based on the mini-series.
"Julian was chatting with various film directors and movie executives about the show and the possibility it would make a fantastic feature film," said a source to The Sun. "Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep were also seen chatting and congratulating him."
The source added, "He was very much flying the flag for British TV. They were all chatting about how much of a success the film version would be. Julian was explaining he would have to give the idea a lot of thought and that lots of people have already asked him about film rights."
As for a storyline of the possible movie, multiple insiders told the paper that it will likely "deal with a single event that engulfs the Abbey and its character that won't detract the ongoing TV narrative."
"Downton Abbey" is a British period drama series that is set in the fictional estate of Downton Abbey in North Yorkshire, and features an ensemble cast. The show became popular in the U.S. since it started airing on PBS as part of the Masterpiece slot.
As for Julian Fellowes, the screenwriter/director is acknowledged in Hollywood for his works in several movies, including 2001's "Gosford Park" that made him the Oscar winner for Best Writing, Original Screenplay. He also wrote such films as 2004's "Vanity Fair" and 2010's "The Tourist".
