'Lone Ranger' Director Could Produce Futuristic Jungle Book Film

Filmmaker Gore Verbinski has been eyed to tackle the directorial duty for a Chernin Entertainment's movie project that is based on a pitch by Matt Sazanna and Burk Sharpless.

AceShowbiz - "The Lone Ranger" director Gore Verbinski is close to produce a new movie. Deadline reported that Verbinsksi has been eyed to take on the productional duty for Chernin Entertainment's upcoming project which is described as a "futuristic Jungle Book."

The story is based on an untitled pitch from screenwriter duo Matt Sazanna and Burk Sharpless. Chernin Entertainment is near to sign a deal to acquire the pitch. The studio also expects Verbinski to produce the project along with John Krauss as well as Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark.

It is reported that Chernin was not the only studio that is interested to develop this untitled Gore Verbinski project. Words are, Walt Disney Pictures, that created both animated and live-action Jungle Book movies, also bid on the pitch and wanted Verbinski to produce it with Basil Iwanyk.

The new film project might reunite Verbinski with Sazama and Sharpless. They are also working together for an upcoming live-action adaptation of a board game called "Clue", which is developed at Universal Pictures and is expected to be released sometime in 2013.
