Moving out of the White House, Kal Penn finds a place among "How I Met Your Mother" cast. The "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" actor has landed a recurring role in the Josh Radnor-starring comedy series, a CBS spokesperson confirms the news which was first reported by TVLine.

The 34-year-old, who will leave the position he held for two years in the Office of Public Engagement later this month, will portray Kevin, a new love interest for Cobie Smulders' Robin. The former girlfriend of Ted and Barney is looking forward to jumping to the dating scene again after focusing more on her career in last season.

Executive producer Craig Thomas recently said, "Robin didn't do a hell of a lot of dating at all [last season]; she was more [immersed in] switching careers. Now, Robin, who's single and is looking forward a little bit, can't help but wonder if what happened between her and Barney could have been something more had they been more ready."

The "HIMYM" gig will be Penn's first TV role since leaving "House M.D." to work in the Obama administration. He will also reunite with Neil Patrick Harris, who makes an appearance in "A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas" which is due November 4 in the U.S.
