A friend of Cruz and Bardem claims to have directly heard about the engagement news from one of the celebrity pair.

Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have been congratulated by Rush & Molloy of New York Daily News who claim the lovebirds have got engaged. A friend tells Rush & Molloy to have directly heard about the engagement story from one of the actors. "They're telling friends they will get married," says the friend.
Publicists for both Cruz and Bardem decline to comment on the matter. The movie stars themselves also have not yet addressed the story.
In fact, this isn't the first time that Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, who have been dating since 2007, are hit with engagement report. Previous reports of them getting engaged have been proven false though.
Most recently, Cruz was forced to deny speculation that she and Bardem were expecting their first child. However, just days after denying the pregnancy story, she and Bardem were photographed leaving an OB/GYN clinic in Madrid, only to add fuel to the persistent baby-on-the-way rumor. When asked about it, a friend of the celebrity pair says, "They say the pregnancy stories aren't true."
