Robert Downey Jr. is shifting his attention from action adventure to comedy with "Due Date". In a recent casting news, the star of "Iron Man" and its sequel is reported to have been tapped for a lead role in the brand new comedy project from "The Hangover" director Todd Phillips.
For the feature project, 44-year-old Downey will tackle on a role of an expectant father who finds himself on a road trip with a mismatched partner. The Academy Award-nominated actor is set to star opposite "The Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis, who has been picked up to play his road trip mate.
"Due Date" centers on a hard-charging L.A. business executive whose wife is about to have their first child. While rushing to witness the birth of his child, the dad-to-be gets stuck in a snowstorm and is forced to hitch a ride with a laid-back college kid to make it. Described to be "a buddy comedy without the buddies", it will begin filming in September, in Atlanta, Arizona and Los Angeles.
Robert Downey Jr. has been spotted attending San Diego Comic Con 2009 recently. He has joined co-star Rachel McAdams and producers Susan Downey and Joel Silver at the panel for Guy Ritchie-directed "Sherlock Holmes" on Friday, July 24. He is expected to make another appearance at the convention to promote his other upcoming film "Iron Man 2" on Saturday, July 25.
