Hours after an R-rated clip of "Saw VI" made its round, Lionsgate presented the world premiere of the film's teaser trailer. On Thursday, July 23, the studio made a simultaneous reveal of the first promo video for the sixth "Saw" movie, debuting it at San Diego Comic Con 2009 as well as streaming it live on FEARnet.com, Justin.tv and the official "SAW" Facebook page.

Not much of the plot is unraveled by the teaser. Less than a minute long, the snippet mostly contains footage similar to what has been shown in the clip. Nonetheless, it does pick up the number of six as the theme for the promo effort, highlighting that there will be "6 chances, 6 lessons and 6 choices" to be dealt.

Along with the coming out of the teaser, Lionsgate gave a thumb up for the development of "Saw VII". According to Variety, the helmer of "Saw V" David Hackl has been tapped to direct the project with scribes Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton returning to pen the screenplay. The studio eyes January 2010 as the start of production date.

"Saw VI", in the meantime, replaces director David Hackl with "The Strangers" editor Kevin Greutert for the directing position, but holds on to screenwriter duo Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton for the film's script. Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Costas Mandylor and Mark Rolston are among the cast members returning to the series. This movie is scheduled to open wide in the U.S. on October 23.
