The rumor suggesting that songstress Christina Aguilera sets her eyes on "Burlesque" is very much true. Variety reported that the four-time Grammy Award-winner has signed on to star in the Steve Antin-directed contemporary musical for Screen Gems, making the movie as her big screen debut.
28-year-old Aguilera will portray an ambitious small town girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a neo-burlesque club in Los Angeles. Of her involvement in the project, Screen Gems topper Clint Culpepper commented, "I couldn't be more excited, as this was a project written with her in mind."
"Burlesque" has been described by Steve Antin as "a contemporary take on the traditional burlesque that derived from vaudeville, with singing, dancing, comedy and more tease than striptease." Written by the brother of The Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin, it was revised by "Erin Brockovich" scribe Susannah Grant. Donald De Line will produce. The pic is aimed to begin production in January 2010.
Famous for her big voice and ever-changing image, Christina Aguilera has done numerous television appearances. Among others, she has hosted an episode of "Saturday Night Live" and made cameo appearance performing in "Beverly Hills, 90210". In 2004, she lent her voice in CGI animated comedy "Shark Tale".
