While throwing cold water to the speculation that the re-imagining of 'Footloose' is on hold due to Zac Efron's exit, Paramount Pictures wouldn't share a word on Chace Crawford's screen test rumor.

AceShowbiz - Contrary to earlier report claiming that "Footloose" is being put on hold in the wake of Zac Efron's withdrawal, Paramount Pictures have claimed the otherwise. Clarifying the brewing rumor was a spokesperson to the studio who contacted Entertainment Weekly and insisted that the remake project is "still moving forward".

When asked further on whether Chace Crawford has indeed tested for the lead role to fill in Efron's vacant part, the representative offered no comment, stating that "casting is still in progress." In the meantime, EW noted that two different sources have pointed out that the "Gossip Girl" heartthrob has met director Kenny Ortega, but it isn't clear whether it was for an official "screen test".

A remake to the 1984 Kevin Bacon-starring film, "Footloose", has been set to be directed by Kenny Ortega, the helmer of Disney's "High School Musical" series. It is expected to start its principal photography in Atlanta sometime this spring with a budget over $20 million and a possible 2010 release.

The re-imagining project originally was set to be Zac Efron's starring vehicle. It was fast-tracked following the box office success of Efron's "High School Musical 3: Senior Year".
