"Smokin' Aces Prequel", a prequel movie of 2007 "Smokin' Aces", is on its way to the big screen. On Thursday, October 30, the action comedy's director/producer/writer, Joe Carnahan, announced that the new project is moving forward. "Finally, some actual 'Smokin Aces' news. Universal has officially greenlit the prequel and we are underway," he wrote on his official blog.

Sharing more on the project, the co-writer of "Pride and Glory" also revealed that there will be plenty of cameo appearances. On the same message, he noted simply, "Cameos will abound. Trust me." Meanwhile, whether this project would be a direct-to-DVD prequel or not as what Carnahan has mentioned previously is still unclear.

The original "Smokin' Aces" has been released in the U.S. on January 26, 2007. Following the story of a Las Vegas magician turned mafia informant and the FBI agent assigned to protect him, this Universal movie is a star studded action comedy led by Jeremy Piven and Ryan Reynolds. It also stars Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, Alicia Keys and Common.
