The CW have given several clips as a sneak peek to the new season of "Smallville". After the collapse of the Fortress of Solitude, Justice League travel to the Arctic to come looking for Clark who is now powerless due to the incident. Meanwhile, Chloe becomes the target of a group that discovers her special ability.

The eight season will start airing on the network on Thursday, September 18 with an episode called "Odyssey". It would be the first time that the show misses its two original cast, Kristin Kreuk aka Lana Lang and Michael Rosenbaum who plays Lex Luthor.

As Luthor is out of the picture, a new villain is brought in. Tess Mercer, played by actress Cassidy Freeman, shows up in Metropolis as the head of LuthorCorp and also the Daily Planet. This character is a reference to Ms. Tessmacher in the Superman films and Mercy in the animated series version.
