Coming into theaters a week after the blockbuster film "%Iron Man%" made its smashing debut, "What Happens in Vegas..." will be faced with a great challenge to win moviegoers' hearts, especially since it will be released into the theaters on the exact same date as the forthcoming family movie "Speed Racer" on May 9. Still, some movie critics believe that the 20th Century Fox's romantic comedy offers more than what meets the eye and will appeal to young people.
Pairing up two comedic and lovable theps, Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz, "What Happens" perhaps gives out a predictable and no-brainer story as what is claimed by Louise Keller via UrbanCineFile, but it still offers a comedy movie that "never pretends to be anything other than what it is". Supporting Keller's comment, Andrew L. Urban of UrbanCineFile added that the movie is more likely to be "a good date movie" as it delivers what it has promised. Joe Leydon of Variety moreover emphasized that the Tom Vaughan-directed film won't be like other comedy movies as it maintains its indulges from the beginning until the end.
Telling a romantic tale of two completely different people stuck in an unwanted marriage, "What Happens" follows strict and successful Joy McNally and party loving slacker Jack Fuller as they both get more than what they bargain for after a night of drunken party in Vegas. Realizing that they somehow end up with marriage license at hands, they try to straighten things up. However, cupid seems to know better as the two then are forced to stay in the marriage when Jack won a jackpot using Joy's quarter. Though doing whatever they can to get their fair share on the money, the unlikely pair soon start to open up to each other.
