Zooey Deschanel has inked to star with Mark Wahlberg in M. Night Shyamalan's 20th Century Fox thriller "The Happening."

The "Elf" actress, Zooey Deschanel, is willing to witness "The Happening", thus signed on to star opposite Mark Wahlberg in the M. Night Shyamalan's upcoming film project.
Of thriller genre, "The Happening", which is co-financed by India's UTV, revolves around a family who must survive a natural global environmental crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity. Deschanel, meanwhile, is slated to portray the female lead role.
Shooting is scheduled to begin August later this year in Philadelphia with Shyamalan gives hand at producing, besides directing, alongside Sam Mercer and Barry Mendel.
The 20th Century Fox has set the film for June 13, 2008 worldwide release date.
