"The Path to 9/11" helmer David Cunningham will direct Walden Media and 20th Century Fox's collaborative project "The Dark Is Rising" based on Susan Cooper's book series.

David Cunningham is going magical this time. "The Path to 9/11" director has been tapped to helm fantasy feature "The Dark Is Rising", a project which kicks off the co-financing alliance Walden Media and 20th Century Fox made last August.
Adapted from the second of Susan Cooper's five-book series of the same title, "The Dark Is Rising" concerns a youth who realizes that he is charged with saving the world after finding out his true identity of being a Sign Seeker, last of a group of immortals dedicated to fight a growing presence of dark forces, at age 11.
Eyeing an early 2007 start to shoot the flick, Cunningham has already flown to Romania to prepare things needed for the production. The movie itself is set for a September 28, 2007 release date with Walden Media aiming to have franchise potential similar to that of "The Chronicles of Narnia."
