A spokeswoman for Madonna denied claims the singer had adopted a one-year-old orphan boy in the African nation of Malawi.

That Madonna is in the African country of Malawi on a mission to try to help orphaned children living with HIV and AIDS is true. But that the pop superstar had adopted a one-year-old orphan boy there, it's not true.
The adoption report first sparked as Malawi government spokesperson Adrina Michiela told reporters on Wednesday Oct 4th that Madonna had chosen a 1-year-old orphan boy to adopt, saying "She asked us to identify boys only, which we have done after visiting four orphanages in Lilongwe".
Despite reports that Madonna has, a spokeswoman for the singer, Liz Rosenberg, tells People "She has not adopted a baby". Liz, on the other hand, confirms the songbird "is in Malawi on a private visit. She is building an orphanage and child care center and is involved in other initiatives geared toward helping children orphaned by AIDS through the Raising Malawi organization".
