A weekend getaway promises healing but descends into a psychological labyrinth in this tense thriller from writer-director Karl Mueller. Kyle, played by Fran Kranz, is a man adrift, reluctantly attending a self-help retreat called Rebirth at the behest of his more enthusiastic friend, portrayed by Adam Goldberg. What begins as a series of unconventional seminars led by the charismatic Harry Hamlin soon morphs into something far more intense and controlled. Kyle finds himself and the other participants, including Kat Foster and Nicky Whelan, subjected to increasingly invasive exercises that blur the lines between therapy and manipulation. As the program’s methods grow more extreme, Kyle must confront buried truths and question the very nature of his reality, fighting to distinguish liberation from entrapment before the retreat’s transformative process consumes him completely.
