In the remote Arctic community of Kugluktuk, a young and inexperienced teacher named Russ, played by Ben Schnetzer, arrives with little understanding of the profound challenges facing the local Inuit youth. Confronted with a pervasive sense of hopelessness marked by high suicide rates and substance abuse, he makes a desperate and unconventional attempt to connect: he introduces them to the sport of lacrosse. The film, a powerful drama based on a true story, follows Russ and the students, including performances by Booboo Stewart and Emerald MacDonald, as they form a team they name "The Grizzlies." This endeavor is met with skepticism from some community elders, embodied by Tantoo Cardinal, and others like Will Sasso's character, but gradually becomes a transformative force, forging a path toward pride, purpose, and cultural reclamation. Directed by Miranda de Pencier, this biographical drama chronicles how a simple game helped revive the spirit of a community, celebrating resilience and the unbreakable bonds formed on and off the field.
