"Dream Doll", is a biopic based on Barbie Doll inventor Ruth Handler memoir, "Dream Doll: The Ruth Handler Story". The film will chronicle the life of Handler as she founded Mattel in 1945 and created the now-iconic Barbie doll, named after her daughter Barbara, in 1959. Handler was one of the first women to run a Fortune 500 company. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1970 and died in 2002.
Ruth Handler was inspired to create the Barbie doll after seeing her daughter, Barbara, playing with paper dolls modeled after infants. Wanting her daughter to aspire to be a woman Bold Films Logo with choices, Handler found an adult novelty toy abroad and modified it to work as a toy for children, along with a separate line of accessories, which she then manufactured with her husband via their company, Mattel.
