Set against the stunning, untamed coastline of 1970s Western Australia, this coming-of-age drama from director Simon Baker follows two restless teenage boys, Pikelet and Loonie, portrayed by Samson Coulter and Ben Spence. Bored with their small-town existence, the friends are captivated by the enigmatic older surfer Sando, played by Simon Baker, who introduces them to the dangerous, addictive thrill of riding big waves. Under Sando’s mentorship, the boys are pushed to their physical and emotional limits, discovering a new world of risk, freedom, and self-discovery. As they become increasingly obsessed with conquering the ocean’s most powerful swells, their bond is tested by jealousy, fear, and the arrival of Sando’s free-spirited wife Eva, portrayed by Elizabeth Debicki, whose own complex past adds a layer of tension to the group’s dynamic. Featuring a strong supporting cast including Rachael Blake and Richard Roxburgh, Breath is a visceral and atmospheric exploration of adolescence, mortality, and the intoxicating pull of the unknown, capturing the raw beauty and inherent danger of the sea.
