Jimmy and Judy
Action, Drama

The ultimate teenage outcast road movie, "Jimmy and Judy" charts the path of a pair of outsiders who fall in love and out of control as they travel across an American landscape dotted with hypocrisy, materialism, drugs and violence.

Written and directed by Randall K. Rubin and Jon Schroder, "Jimmy and Judy" offers a fresh take on classic adolescent themes such as rebellion, love, and anger. A modern day "Bonnie & Clyde," the film traces the journey of Jimmy (Edward Furlong) and Judy (Rachael Bella), spirited young lovers who leave the comfortable numb of their suburban community in search of a better life in rural Kentucky.

Eschewing conventional cinematic grammar in favor of an intense, verite style of narrative, Rubin and Schroder use the immediacy of hand-held video to give "Jimmy and Judy" an unprecedented intimacy. The film unspools as an ongoing video diary, first of Jimmy's sociopathic pranks, then of the couple's blossoming romance and subsequent flight into a violent and anarchic middle-American wilderness. Throughout it all, "Jimmy and Judy" roots viewers to the spot, putting us directly in the shoes (and behind the camera) of its desperate lovers.

A provocative film that takes viewers on a wild ride, "Jimmy and Judy" is a moving, terrifying, bleakly hilarious, and fiercely powerful look at a young couple's attempt to break out of the mold and the price they must pay to do so.

Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold
Documentary

Across more than 50 years of essays, novels, screenplays, and criticism, Joan Didion has been our premier chronicler of the ebb and flow of America's cultural and political tides with observations on her personal - and our own - upheavals, downturns, life changes, and states of mind.

In the intimate, extraordinary documentary "Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold", actor and director Griffin Dunne unearths a treasure trove of archival footage and talks at length to his "Aunt Joan" about the eras she covered and the eventful life she's lived, including partying with Janis Joplin in a house full of L.A. rockers; hanging in a recording studio with Jim Morrison; and cooking dinner for one of Charles Manson's women for a magazine story.

Didion guides us through the sleek literati scene of New York in the 1950s and early '60s, when she wrote for Vogue; her return to her home state of California for two turbulent decades; the writing of her seminal books, including Slouching Towards Bethlehem, Play It as It Lays, A Book of Common Prayer, and The White Album; her film scripts, including The Panic in Needle Park; her view of 1980s and '90s political personalities; and the meeting of minds that was her long marriage to writer John Gregory Dunne. She reflects on writing about her reckoning with grief after Dunne's death, in The Year of Magical Thinking (winner of the National Book Award for Nonfiction), and the death of their daughter Quintana Roo, in Blue Nights.

John McEnroe: In the Realm of Perfection
Documentary

In the high-stakes arena of 1980s tennis, where grace and fury collide, [c=Julien Faraut]'s mesmerizing documentary constructs a portrait of an artist at war with himself. Using astonishing, long-forgotten 16mm footage from the French Open, the film dissects the legendary [c=John McEnroe] not merely as an athlete, but as a volatile performer on the grandest stage. With narration by [c=Mathieu Amalric], the film transforms serves and volleys into a cinematic ballet, framing McEnroe's infamous outbursts and sublime genius as two sides of the same relentless pursuit. As the pressure mounts and his rivalry with the stoic [c=Ivan Lendl] intensifies, the court becomes a psychological battleground, exploring the thin line between perfection and self-destruction. This is not a standard sports documentary, but a philosophical and aesthetic inquiry into the nature of competition, obsession, and the raw, beautiful chaos of a man striving for the impossible.
