Park Jimin, known mononymously as Jimin, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and dancer who achieved global superstardom as a member of the groundbreaking boy band BTS. Renowned for his ethereal vocals, precise and expressive dance artistry, and captivating stage presence, Jimin has cemented his status not only as a pivotal part of one of the world's biggest musical acts but also as a record-setting solo artist in his own right. Born on October 13, 1995, in Busan, South Korea, he was a talented student in modern dance before auditioning for Big Hit Entertainment. He successfully joined the agency as a trainee, ultimately debuting with BTS in June 2013.
His journey within BTS showcased his dynamic evolution as a performer. He contributed to the group's expansive discography while also unveiling solo album tracks that became signature moments, including "Lie" (2016), "Serendipity" (2017), and "Filter" (2020). These songs highlighted his vocal versatility and artistic depth, consistently charting in South Korea. His first independently credited solo song was the self-composed digital single "Promise," released in 2018 for the group's fan community. Further demonstrating his range, he recorded the duet "With You" with singer Ha Sung-woon for the soundtrack of the tvN drama Our Blues in 2022.
Jimin made a monumental entry into official solo work with his debut album, Face, released in March 2023. The project, a deeply personal exploration of identity and emotion during the pandemic era, was a massive commercial success. It debuted at number one in South Korea and Japan and entered the US Billboard 200 at number two, making him the highest-charting Korean solo artist in the chart's history at that time. Its lead single, "Like Crazy," made history by becoming the first song by a Korean solo artist to debut at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. This achievement was complemented by Jimin becoming the first Korean solo artist to top the Billboard Artist 100 chart.
Continuing his solo trajectory, Jimin released his second album, Muse, in July 2024. The project's lead single, "Who," debuted at number one on the Billboard Global 200, reaffirming his powerful and consistent impact on the global music landscape. Through his work with BTS and his burgeoning solo career, Jimin has established himself as a multifaceted artist whose influence extends far beyond music, shaping contemporary pop culture with his dedication to performance and emotional connection.
