Animal Kingdom is an American drama television series that premiered on TNT on June 14, 2016. The series is based on the 2010 Australian film of the same name and follows the Cody family, a criminal family in Southern California. In the fifth season of the series, the Codys are still reeling from the death of Smurf, their matriarch. With Smurf gone, the family is divided and each member is trying to figure out their place in the world. Pope (Shawn Hatosy) is struggling to lead the family, while J (Finn Cole) is trying to find his own way. Deran (Jake Weary) is dealing with his own demons, and Craig (Ben Robson) is trying to figure out who he is. Mia (Sohvi Rodriguez) is the only one who seems to be thriving, but even she has her own secrets. In this exclusive preview of the fifth season of Animal Kingdom, we see the Codys struggling to come to terms with Smurf's death.
