"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is an upcoming American epic space opera film directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy. It is the first stand-alone film in the Star Wars anthology series and the eighth Star Wars film overall. The film stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 16, 2016.
The official synopsis for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is as follows: "From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,' an epic adventure set in the time of civil war between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire.
