We Are All Trying Here Synopsis

In the chaotic halls of a struggling urban high school, the new television series "We Are All Trying Here" follows a group of educators and students as they navigate the daily pressures of modern education. At the center is a dedicated but overworked principal, played by Kerry Washington, who fights to keep her school afloat amid budget cuts, parental demands, and a district that seems indifferent to their plight. Meanwhile, a rookie teacher, portrayed by John Boyega, brings fresh idealism but soon clashes with a cynical veteran instructor, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who has seen too many reforms come and go. Their personal lives intertwine with those of the students, including a brilliant but troubled teenager (played by Storm Reid) who struggles to balance academic dreams with family responsibilities. The series balances sharp humor with heartfelt drama, exploring themes of resilience, community, and the messy, often imperfect ways people try to do their best when the system is stacked against them. As the school year unfolds, alliances shift, secrets are revealed, and everyone discovers that survival sometimes requires bending the rules.
