In the quiet town of Kaminoseki, high school student Shinichi Izumi’s life is irrevocably altered when a parasitic alien attempts to burrow into his brain but is thwarted, taking over his right hand instead. Forced into an uneasy symbiosis with the intelligent creature he names Migi, Shinichi must navigate a new, terrifying reality where these shape-shifting parasites are silently infiltrating humanity, committing brutal murders to feed and multiply. As he and Migi develop a strange, reluctant partnership, Shinichi finds himself caught in a violent conflict between his own species and the parasitic invaders. The series masterfully blends visceral horror with philosophical questions about what it truly means to be human, following Shinichi’s journey from a timid teenager into a hardened survivor. Through intense, grotesque action and psychological tension, Parasyte -the maxim- explores themes of empathy, identity, and survival as Shinichi risks everything to protect the people he loves from an enemy that looks just like them.
