Carrie and Al go to Syracuse to investigate a new lead in her sister's murder case. The Syracuse PD take a man by the name of Sam Rhodes into custody on suspicion of murdering Becky Hartley, a 14 year-old girl who was killed in a manner very similar to Rachel. The moment Carrie sees Sam, a memory comes flooding back to her: Rhodes was there the day her sister was killed, and he must be the killer. Back in NYC, the rest of the team digs into Rhodes background and finds information that puts him in the vicinity of a string of child murders going back for many years. Carrie interrogates Rhodes and tries to get him to confess, but he's adamant that he didn't kill Rachel; that Carrie's memory of that day is flawed. When word comes down that they have to release Rhodes, Carrie is furious, but can do little to stop it. A short time later, Rhodes kidnaps Carrie and takes her to the spot of her sister's murder, while Al and the team frantically search for her. More...Instead of killing her, Rhodes helps Carrie piece together the rest of her fractured memories from the day Rachel was killed, and he convinces her that they have been hunting for the same person over the years. Using some of the information Rhodes has compiled over the years, they discover that Todd Sadler, the step-father to Becky's best friend, is their killer. They chase him down as he tries to flee, and Carrie is forced to shoot Sadler before she can confirm that he was Rachel's murderer. However, a new memory of a white RV with green stripes reemerges during this ordeal, giving her a new lead in her ongoing quest to find answers about Rachel's death.
