Turn: The Dome has stopped spinning -- and warmer temps are holding -- but Chester's Mill isn't out of danger. Joe (Colin Ford), Norrie (Mackenzie Lintz), and Hunter (Max Ehrich) show Rebecca (Karla Crome) that the Dome is now shrinking, rapidly. She asks the kids to start gathering folks together at the high school. Meanwhile, Lyle (Dwight Yoakam) is reading from the Bible: Chapter 3 from the Book of Ecclesiastes. He watches Big Jim (Dean Norris) and Pauline (Sherry Stringfield) intently; it looks like they're now on better terms. Barbie (Mike Vogel) helps folks evacuate homes at the Dome's edge, including Julia (Rachelle Lefevre). At school, Rebecca tries to figure out the rate at which the Dome is contracting. Joe and Norrie bring Hunter to Barbie and make him confess: he's been working for Barbie's father Don (Brett Cullen). But Hunter explains that he's now on their side, and Norrie confirms; Hunter asked Don's head of security, Malick (Mike Whaley), to stop experimenting on the egg. Despite this, Barbie takes Hunter away at gunpoint.

Big Jim and Pauline discuss whether her old paintings could show them how to stop the Dome from shrinking. Meanwhile, Barbie takes Hunter to the Dome's edge; first, alone, Hunter asks Malick to get Don -- but it's not until Barbie appears and holds Hunter at gunpoint that Malick agrees. At Big Jim's house, Junior (Alexander Koch) wonders if Pauline can help Melanie -- but her visions, unfortunately, disappeared with the egg. Back at school, Julia and Rebecca argue over plans just as Melanie begins coughing up blood. Something must be happening to the egg ... and it's killing Melanie in the process.

Rebecca discovers that Melanie's red blood cells are disintegrating. Sam (Eddie Cahill) suggests a transfusion, and Rebecca remembers a technique to determine blood type using -- of all things -- lima beans. Luckily, Rebecca is the right type for the transfusion, and Sam starts the process. Big Jim takes Pauline to her studio and asks her to paint something -- anything -- to help them; he can't have them die under the Dome from a mistake he made. Don arrives at the Dome's edge, and Barbie explains why they need the egg back; not only is the Dome now shrinking, but the egg's disappearance is causing Melanie -- Don's own daughter -- harm. Don doesn't believe Melanie's alive until Barbie has Joe (who's been hiding nearby) play a recent video blog on his tablet. Don agrees to get them the egg, and asks where the "door" to the Dome is located. Despite his misgivings, Barbie tells him the truth.

The transfusion works -- but Barbie wonders if Melanie's newfound health is also due to Don agreeing to bring the egg back. Joe and Norrie are sent to get a radio and to wait at the lake -- the "entrance" to Chester's Mill from Don's root cellar. Meanwhile, Big Jim convinces Pauline to try painting again; maybe the Dome chose their whole family for a reason. Over in Zenith, Don goes to retrieve the egg despite Malick's protests; miraculously, he's able to pick it up with his bare hands -- but it suddenly goes dark. As Don tries to leave, Malick explains he's got to follow orders -- and he and several others draw their guns. At her wit's end, Julia asks the Dome directly for help.

Pauline has another vision, and paints Melanie being saved by eight hands -- but she also sees what looks like red paint dripping from her canvas. She gathers the old and new "Four Hands," and they transport a dying Melanie to the crater. Pauline has the seven remaining "Hands" touch Melanie's body. Initially, nothing happens -- until Rebecca realizes that Melanie actually counts as two people (past and present). Sam and Junior grab each of Melanie's hands, and the theory works -- she awakens! But suddenly, a strange vortex opens up and pulls her into the ground. Junior and Barbie try in vain to save her, but she disappears into a crater. A remorseful Pauline walks away; Big Jim follows and tries to comfort her. They kiss, but Big Jim realizes his mouth is covered with blood. Lyle has snuck up behind them -- and has stabbed Pauline in the back! She crumbles to the ground, and wonders aloud if the red paint on her canvas was her own blood. Was she supposed to sacrifice herself for Melanie instead? Big Jim tackles Lyle, ultimately grabbing the knife and stabbing Lyle in the chest.

Where did Melanie go? Will Pauline survive? And does Don make it through with the egg? Stay tuned for next week's season finale to find out!
