When business mogul Yuri Bajoran gets a death threat just hours before signing his company away to rival billionaire Walter Mashburn (Ep. 213), Walter calls in the CBI to make sure that Yuri doesn't die before the deal goes down. But just as Yuri puts pen to paper, the building explodes. Yuri is vaporized. The initial list of suspects includes Yuri's wife, Marie Bajoran, reclusive billionaire Markham Shankar, and Walter himself. But while Walter and Yuri's rivalry runs deep, Jane believes the suspect. Taking over Yuri's business was the worst thing Walter could have done to him, and Jane knows it. Marie also seems to be a dead end, though they learn that she had been involved with Walter before she married Yuri. Jane also discovers a possible clue in one of Yuri's toupees, but he keeps it to himself. While investigating Shankar at an exclusive camp in the redwoods, Walter, Lisbon, and Jane are shot at by a sniper. Lisbon pushes Walter out of the way just in time, saving his life. The sniper isn't found, and Shankar's camp is deserted. Jane realizes that Walter may have been the intended target the whole time, and the initial phone call to Yuri may have been misdirection. He formulates a plan to lure Shankar out of hiding while Lisbon investigates Walter's other possible enemies. Jane gets Shankar to show up at a party he throws on Walters' estate, but the other billionaire doesn't seem good for it. Fortunately for the investigation, another suspect presents herself that night. Elsa Struven, Walter's jealous German model ex-girlfriend, jumps out of the bushes and runs at Walter with a knife. Lisbon brings her in where she reveals that she wasn't trying to attack Walter, but Lisbon herself! She's been stalking Walter for months, and has seen the tension between then ever since Lisbon saved his life. Jane, sensing the kind of person Elsa is, asks to see her cell phone. On it are hundreds of pictures of Walter, taken covertly. A few show Walter having lunch with Yuri's head of security. Suddenly, the case has come full circle. Did Walter stage the shooting to absolve him of suspicion? Jane and Lisbon go back to Marie, hoping that if he is still in love with her and they can them in a room together, the truth will come out. But when Jane and Lisbon bring Marie to Walter's compound, he takes off as fast as he can. Jane finds a piece of paper in his car with a code on it, and asks Marie if she knows what it means. She feigns ignorance, and the CBI let her go. That night, at a private airfield, (with a name that matches the code on Jane's piece of paper), Yuri shows up to finish Walter off once and for all. He finds himself immediately surrounded by the law. Not willing to sell his beloved company to his enemy, Jane tells us, Yuri faked his own death and planned on killing Walter in the blast. When Walter didn't die, Yuri tried to kill him again. Jane tipped Marie off to Walter's location knowing that it would lure Yuri out of hiding. The key to the whole investigation was Jane discovering Yuri's toupees. There were several missing from his closet, and Jane figured out that Yuri took them with him into hiding. At the end of the episode, we learn that Elsa's prediction was spot on. Lisbon does sleep with Walter, though the next morning he leaves for a two month trip to Europe while she goes back to the office. Neither says whether or not it will continue.
