DOUBLE MURDER PUTS SOUTHERLYN'S CAREER IN JEOPARDY -- When two roommates are found bludgeoned to death in their apartment, Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Green (Jesse L. Martin) focus their investigation on handyman Michael Hobbs (guest star Gene Silvers). As the police close in, Hobbs takes a hostage, leading A.D.A. Southerlyn (Elisabeth Rohm) to put her life--and career--on the line as she talks the dangerous man into a problematic confession while negotiating the safe release of his captive. Executive A.D.A. McCoy (Sam Waterston) is then left with the complex task of working out the legal ramifications of the murky disclosure for both murderer and prosecutor.
