When a prison inmate is found stabbed to death in the showers, the Warden needs to take action quickly. He calls into his office the unassuming Dennis Sampson and makes him an offer he can't refuse: information about the murder in exchange for witness protection.
Three months later, the owner of the flower shop where Mary has gotten Dennis a job is also found stabbed in his store. The common denominator is Dennis but he seems too weak to hurt a fly. Or is he? Mary and Marshall have to work with-and of course around-Bobby D. to figure out who is responsible for the stabbing of the shop owner, who happens to be a friend of Mary's.
Back at the office, Eleanor is acting standoffish after her night with Stan. Marshall can't help but notice that something strange is going on between them, though Mary thinks Marshall is imagining things.
Jinx returns from rehab-shaky but so far, holding it together-until a young woman named Lauren shows up with a letter for Jinx from James, Jinx's deadbeat husband. The unexpected letter is upsetting enough but when Lauren tells Jinx that she is James's daughter, Jinx faints. As Jinx and Brandi start unraveling Lauren's story, they learn that James is also married to Lauren's mother, making him a bigamist on top of his other misdeeds. Since Mary would be obligated to tell the FBI of the whereabouts of her father, Jinx convinces Brandi not to tell Mary who Lauren is. Brandi agrees to the plan-for now.
