Gabriel makes contact with Melinda for the first time since her near-death experience. Still angry and confused over his role in her accident, Melinda doesn't want anything to do with him, but he claims that he is her brother, and he needs her help in finding their father. Skeptical of Gabriel's motives, Melinda is unwilling to take any of this on faith, but she does accept a package of family keepsakes. After inspecting the keepsakes, Melinda is visited by a ghost, Tessa, who was killed 150 years ago after being accused of performing witchcraft that led to the deaths of many people in a church fire. Melinda investigates further in the town archives and discovers that part of the town had been buried to erase this dark piece of history. She then finds a door hidden in the archives leading to a series of tunnels that guide her through the buried town under Grandview to the church where all the deaths took place. At the church, Melinda sets the record straight: a disease killed the people, not Tessa's ability to see ghosts and foresee the deadly outcome, which the town believed was witchcraft. Before Melinda can get Tessa to cross over, a very dark and powerful spirit appears, forcing Melinda to flee. On her way out, the tunnel collapses, trapping her in a small air pocket. While Melinda struggles to get free, her father and Tessa appear, and her father explains that Tessa is actually Melinda's great-great-great-grandmother, and that Melinda needs to understand the extreme forces that exist in Grandview. Meanwhile, Jim, Delia and Payne frantically search for Melinda, and just as she is about to run out of air, Jim breaks through and saves her.
