The team is investigating the murder of Chelsea Marsh, Daughter of Dr. Rachel Marsh, after she is found dead in her mother's home office. The list of suspects includes some of Dr. Marsh's patients, family members and an ex-boyfriend, Shane Huntington. Chelsea broke up with Shane, heir to a large family fortune, who also happened to be a patient of Dr. Marsh.

The team figures out that Shane was not responsible for Chelsea's death even though he paid Chelsea's brother to steal files from the office. Chelsea's murderer turns out to be Pam Dashell, the ex-wife of Eddie Dashell who was getting help from Dr. Masrh. When Pam realized that her ex-husband was making great progress, thanks to Dr. Marsh, she felt threatened that she may lose full custody of their son. In a fit of rage she went to kill Dr. Marsh but instead accidentally killed Chelsea. After Pam's confession Horatio and Delko return to the Marsh residence only to find Dr. Marsh lying on the lawn, barely breathing with a gun shot wound to her chest. Her son, Justin, is washing his hands of blood in the family pool. He claims his innocence.

The team investigates further and uncovers that Justin stole all his mother's files for Shane Huntington, but that he did not kill his mom. Dr. Marsh's killer was actually one of the initial suspects in Chelsea's murder, her patient, Nick Burnham. He killed her in a jealous rage after she claimed a family emergency and canceled his therapy session.
