The whole team visits the site of a truckjacking gone bad, a scene that includes two dead gangsters and multiple trucks, one containing dozens of barrels meant to conceal packages of drugs. Lindsay and Halstead visit one of the shooting victims' homes and discover a wallet for a third participant named Charles Gray (presumed alive) containing a business card for none other than Voight. Charles' name doesn't sound familiar, but Voight recognizes Charles' mom, Michelle, a trustworthy friend (and former confidential informant) from his past. She admits to giving Charles Voight's card, but she insists on her son's innocence in the crime. Voight manages to keep Charles out of the investigation while the rest of the team focuses on a warehouse as the possible origin of the trucks. But forcing their way inside the door triggers a fire and locks the team inside. Things look bleak until Halstead forces himself through a window, frees everyone else and helps nab two kids with intel on the truckjacking.

Meanwhile, Nadia joins Burgess and Roman on a ride-along as part of her criminology class. During a low-level call about a barking dog, Nadia stays in the car and spots two masked figures sneaking out of the house. Rather than wait for Burgess and Roman, she pursues them - and ends up in an intense shootout. While Nadia eludes gunfire, Burgess and Roman swoop in for the arrest. Due to Nadia's status as a civilian, the incident results in Commander Fischer's ire, but later Lindsay assures Nadia that Fischer's rage usually denotes a job well done in Intelligence. It seems Nadia is well on her way to becoming a Chicago police officer.

Between the interview with the kids and some additional legwork, Antonio and Olinsky narrow down the identity of one of the truck drivers and find him hiding out in a bomb shelter. He swears his innocence during the interrogation but ID's Charles as the third man. Moreover, Halstead shows Voight a photo of Charles throwing a gang sign - evidence Voight rushes over to Michelle for an explanation. For the first time, Voight doubts her honesty... until she calls him later with Charles in tow, bleeding from multiple bullet wounds. Voight pulls strings to keep Charles out of the system, and soon enough Halstead and his brother, Will, arrive for an emergency surgery. While Will performs the surgery under duress, Charles explains he was blackmailed into participating in the crime: the real gangsters threatened to kill Michelle.

But before Will can finish the surgery, a revenge-seeking group from the original truckjacking pulls up outside, guns at the ready. Halstead and Voight provide cover while Michelle lays low with Charles and Will. Voight manages to track the chief criminal to the basement and ends the threat with a single shot. The intensity of the event, coupled with a surgical job opportunity at Chicago Med, supplies Will with enough reason to stay in Chicago. But when he mentions it to Halstead that night, it ignites a brotherly discussion that borders on argument. Each harbors resentment towards the other for past actions.

Later, Voight treats a recuperated Charles and his mom to breakfast near the Canadian border and, to help them start a new life, hands over a thick stack of cash from his personal vault. Stunned, they thank him but demand to know why he would commit such a selfless act. Voight shrugs - it's just the right thing to do.
