After a devastating fire curtails plans for a neighborhood wedding, Boden (Eamonn Walker) offers to host the ceremony at the firehouse. That doesn't sit well with Chief Riddle, who sees 51 as the "squeaky wheel" that could hinder his political aspirations. Cryptically, Riddle tells Captain Patterson to be ready, because "there may be a Battalion Chief slot opening up very soon." Riddle also denies Severide (Taylor Kinney) his petition to regain his old position as lieutenant, informing Severide that they will need to reevaluate somewhere down the road.

Meanwhile, after losing her baby and following her stint in Arson, Dawson (Monica Raymund) returns to work at the firehouse. Dawson and Riddle go toe-to-toe over his doubts that she's fit for duty in the wake of her recent loss.

The wedding at the firehouse goes off without a hitch, with Brett (Kara Killmer) serenading the couple and a fire department chaplain officiating. The only mar on the happy occasion comes from Patterson, who called the local news to cover the event... and Patterson seems to take credit for the idea.

At Molly's later that evening, sparks fly between new candidate Borrelli (Steven R. McQueen) and Chili (Dora Madison), and they end the night with a kiss.
