It's been radio silence from music producer Johnny Idalis, and Will needs cash, so he decides to get one of those "boring regular person jobs." Andy helps him pour over the classifieds, but Will isn't really qualified to do anything besides songwriting.

Meanwhile over at Fiona's, Marcus is taking maracas lessons to prepare for a performance of "Cuban Pete" at his middle school fundraiser. This gives Will an idea; he'll teach guitar lessons! He posts a flier at Marcus' school, immediately catching the eye of cute single mom Emma, who hires him to give her daughter, Tessa, a lesson. That afternoon, after the lesson, Tessa heads off to a friend's and Emma opens up about her terrible divorce, offering Will a glass of "expensive" wine.

Back at the school, Fiona is hanging out with Chris when she's approached by a clique of other mothers: Joanne, Julia and Rachel. The women invite her to a planning meeting for the fundraiser, but she nervously turns them down. When Chris questions her actions, Fiona explains that the women remind her of mean girls from her unpopular middle school days. She thinks they're only being nice to her because she's dating the hot teacher. Chris tells her she's not in middle school anymore and encourages her to go to the meeting.

Across town, Will has just finished shacking up with Emma when she gives him a fat wad of cash... er, for the guitar lessons, of course. When Andy finds out, he quickly puts two and two together; Emma paid Will for sex! When he denies it, Andy challenges Will to go back for a second guitar lesson and not sleep with Emma. If she pays him the same amount, then he's not a prostitute.

Meanwhile, Fiona hits it off at the fundraising meeting, but when she suggests they choose "Cuban Pete" as the class song, the women worry the song is too weird and could lead to bullying. Fiona hadn't thought of that. Seeing as how she's fitting in nicely with the other moms, she encourages Marcus to fit in too. Instead of "Cuban Pete," he and his class will be performing Sara Bareilles' mainstream hit, "Brave."

Will returns to Emma's house to prove he's not a ho, but she quickly admits his guitar is not the instrument she's interested in. After a quick tryst, she insists on paying him for his time... because she forgot to cancel the lesson. Andy is now convinced Will is a prostitute, so Will cooks up another plan to prove him wrong. Prostitutes don't ask women out on dates or pay, so Will asks Emma out. Emma accepts, suggesting that he be her "escort" to the middle school fundraiser. Interesting choice of words. It all seems innocent at first, until she suggests Will take part in the bachelor auction event.

At the fundraiser, Fiona is with Chris and the other mothers when they spot Will on the auction block, offering a "package" of five guitar lessons. On a roll, Emma ups her bid until she's promised $2,000, inspiring gossip among the moms. Then Fiona sees how bored and uninspired Marcus looks singing "Brave." It's heartbreaking. When the women continue gossiping about Emma and Will, Fiona finally snaps, sticking up for Will and telling them off. She always wanted to know what it felt like to be popular, but now that she's on the inside, she has no interest in it. Then at an abrupt break in the song Will tells Emma that he's done having sex with her so that the whole room hears. Offended, Emma throws a drink in his face and tells him that she actually liked him; she was only paying him to waste her ex-husband's money. Fiona apologizes to Marcus for forcing him to fit in. She was wrong to ask him to follow the lemmings as part of a community - because a community is full of individuals. Fiona encourages Marcus to perform "Cuban Pete." Fiona and Chris hop onto the stage to do the rumba, and pretty soon the whole room is dancing!
