Will and Andy stalk music producer Johnny Idalis via minivan in an attempt to get him to listen to Will's new song. Mr. Idalis is disturbed by the stalking but doesn't hate the song; all it needs is a good hook. Will promises to come back with one.

Marcus comes home from school in a bad mood. Now that Fiona is dating Mr. Chris, Marcus can't stand the guy. In an attempt to smooth things over, Fiona invites Chris over for paint-your-feelings night, where an irritated Marcus paints Chris engulfed in flames. Once Chris is gone, Fiona and Marcus have it out. Marcus warns Fiona that Chris will ruin their 'perfect love bubble.' Refusing to stop seeing Chris, Fiona pulls rank: as long as Marcus is under her roof he'll live by her rules. Fair enough. Marcus decides to move in with Will. Focused on crafting the perfect hook, Will has no time for this. He demands Fiona deal with Marcus. But after speaking to her spirit animal, Fiona decides Marcus must find his own way home, literally and metaphorically. Will soon finds himself in a very odd-couple scenario and Fiona is miserable without Marcus. Will suggests that Fiona made a tactical error by bringing Chris into Marcus' space. Maybe it would help if they tried to bond in a neutral location? Fiona thinks it's worth a try.

Putting the plan into action, Will tricks Marcus into meeting Fiona and Chris at a vegan Vietnamese restaurant. Marcus, betrayed, refuses to stay unless Will does. Unfortunately, Chris proves to be a bit of a know-it-all, which annoys Will as much at is annoys Marcus, and it shows. In private, Fiona asks Will to stop mocking Chris and set a good example. Desperate to get back to writing his hook, Will agrees. It's rough going until Will and Chris realize they're both 49ers fans. Suddenly they're acting like bros, but instead of encouraging Marcus it only makes him angrier. First Chris steals Fiona and now his best friend? Marcus storms off to his tree house, but not without shanghaiing some quinoa mushroom balls.

Will finds Marcus camped out in his tree house and Marcus admits what's really bugging him. The whole time he's been staying with Will, Fiona hasn't missed him at all! Will plays him the many voice messages Fiona has left him, which clearly illustrate how much she's missed "her little chicken." When Marcus emerges from the tree house, Fiona tells him that no matter who comes into her life, she'll always make room for Marcus in her love bubble. Love bubble? That's it! Will has his hook. After running home to finish the track, he and Andy climb back in the van to play the song for Johnny Idalis. The music producer likes it, but Will's gotta stop stalking him and use email next time. Back at Fiona's, Marcus surprises Fiona by setting up another paint-your-feelings night and inviting Mr. Chris.
