All Creatures Great & Small Synopsis

Set against the sweeping beauty of the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s, this heartwarming series follows a young veterinarian who leaves behind the comforts of Glasgow for a challenging new life in the English countryside. Based on the beloved memoirs of James Herriot, the show introduces viewers to a fresh-faced and idealistic vet who joins a small rural practice run by the eccentric and brilliant Siegfried Farnon, played by Samuel West. Alongside Siegfried’s impulsive younger brother, portrayed by Callum Woodhouse, and the capable housekeeper Mrs. Hall, played by Anna Madeley, James must navigate the rugged realities of tending to sick animals while earning the trust of skeptical local farmers. The central conflict arises as James struggles to prove his worth in a community resistant to change, all while finding unexpected romance with the spirited local woman Helen, played by Rachel Shenton. Balancing gentle humor with poignant drama, this series captures the timeless bond between humans and animals, offering a richly immersive escape into a simpler, more compassionate world.
